RAFGS merchandise

Message from the Secretary

2020 may have been a disastrous year for golf (among many things) but we can look forward to next year when the RAFGS will celebrate its Centenary. Your committee has been considering how to mark this splendid milestone in style and we eagerly anticipate meeting many members at the special events at Moor Park on Wednesday 9th June and Coxmoor on Wednesday 11th August. Entry forms will appear in the 2021 handbook which you will receive next January.

As you can see, the committee has decided that our Centenary is an excellent occasion to refresh our logo, which now features an eagle more representative of our RAF heritage. This will appear on our new ensign, polo shirts, sweaters and a range of golf accessories. The latter are of good quality and have been sold at various Open venues. Several items will be awarded as prizes at our Meetings in 2021. Some of you who may not feature on the podium might wish to purchase items which appeal to you. If so, I would be grateful if you could respond to the web-site request to indicate those items which catch your eye. Your responses, which will be without any commitment, will enable me to estimate how many of each type of product to order and thereby meet the minimum order requirement. The products will be available next Spring and I intend to bring a selection to the various Meetings and matches, thus saving postage for those of you there on the day. Firm orders can be made from next February via the web-site or on a form which will be posted with the handbook.

As our Fixture List in 2021 will be rather full I am not sure whether we can fit in the Thames Valley Meeting (TVM) which has been held successfully at Studley Wood near Oxford. The course has consistently been well presented with excellent greens, it is our only event specifically for pairs with 9 holes of Greensomes followed by 18 holes of Betterball, the catering is wholesome, buggies are cheap to hire and the whole day is great value at £60. We also have Johnny Johnson’s superb model Mosquitoes as trophies. To help me gauge the popularity of this event I would be grateful if you could indicate whether you might take part in the TVM which would be on the earlier date of 15th April. The latest draft 2021 Fixture List is below.

As for 2020, the website will highlight arrangements for the matches against Moor Park, Sonning and the Seniors GS, and for the Yorkshire and Autumn Meetings, as soon as these have been determined. Henley has now been rearranged for 7th Oct 2020. I still hope to hold our AGM at either the Autumn or more likely the Winter Meeting, subject to clubhouses operating normally. If we cannot hold a conventional AGM, I shall convene one on ZOOM! Rest assured that the committee has met (on ZOOM) to discuss essential matters and make decisions, so the society is continuing to function effectively.

Your Chairman joins me in hoping that you and your loved ones are surviving these difficult times and that those of you who have been sheltering will soon be able to resume a more normal life.

Please complete the following form so that we can judge the interest in order to meet the minimum order quantities for the merchandise which is bearing the new RAFGS logo for the Centenary year. The costs are approximate.

THERE IS NO COMMITMENT TO THE INDIVIDUAL TO PURCHASE THESE ITEMS
